1) THE GREEN VALLEY
The Green Valley,
the most beautiful of places,
where thankful souls rest
The Green Valley,
where people rest, stretched on their sides,
where reindeer lie down in peace
The Green Valley,
Grazing pasture,
sacred grounds
A peaceful herd,
well-rested reindeer
watched over by their owners
graze these lush pastures
The Green Valley,
the most beautiful of places,
where thankful souls rest
The Green Valley,
where people rest, stretched on their sides,
sacred grounds
Behold the night, wrapped in mild winds,
their resting place,
my sacred grounds,
this lush field of plenty!
2) When the Yoiks Grew Silent
When the language grew silent,
the Earth spoke calmly,
the ocean, each island, these peninsulas and valleys turned their voices into calm whispers.
As they wait
for the day when people
once again will have regained their strength,
and they, in turn, will begin to speak
with powerful voices
When the yoiks grew silent,
the Earth kept on calmly singing her own yoiks,
the mountains, each river, the birch trees, even the wind kept their yoiks like calm whispers
As they wait
for the day when people
once again will have regained their strength,
and they, in turn, will begin to yoik
with powerful voices
3) The Migratory Route
You notice the migratory route here;
how reindeer cows follow each other in lines towards the ancient calving grounds
You notice the migratory route here;
how we carefully move between these rocky outposts
How we gather our herds all over the tundra,
driving them towards our paddocks
From winter pastures of yore,
onwards to spring pastures
and summer grounds
Do you see the migratory route?
Can you see the herds?
In time, we’ll gather them in our paddocks
(Yoik)
4) Technical News
Listen carefully, can you hear the jarring sound?
I wonder where it comes from?
Can you hear the jarring sound?
how it twists and turns like a whirlpool
Behold the iron,
the size of a troll,
how it twists and turns, the iron singing, sparks a-flying
First came the steam ship,
then the train
Twisting and turning like a whirlpool
twisting and turning, the iron singing, sparks a-flying
twisting and turning like an iron bird
twisting and turning like a merry-go-round
Then the car,
followed by the plane
Listen carefully, what makes such a ruckus?
I wonder where it comes from?
What makes such a ruckus,
twisting and turning like lightning bolts
Behold the sky, what fills it?
The iron quivering,
flying,
twisting and turning like an iron bird
Have you heard about the technical news,
meant to improve our everyday lives?
they talk about trains, cars and helicopters
Mechanical entrapments move people
aimlessly all over the place,
rudely they enter places without an invitation,
they seek to climb every mountain,
filling the outback with strangers
Twisting and turning like a wind mill
twisting and turning, the iron singing sparks a-flying
twisting and turning like an iron bird
twisting and turning like a merry-go-round
twisting and turning like a wind mill
